i dont know if i sound crazy but i want to cycle 20.5 miles for the BHF. my trike came but it hasnt been assembled yet because my parents have been busy with work. so i cant test it out and see whether i can travel 20.5 miles using my trike or not. i wanna do it because i have nothing better to do with my life and i want to fundraise for a good cause. but the thing is since ill still be under 18 at the event i need an accompanying adult with me and the only person who can ride with me is my dad. so that sucks. hes pretty hesitant to buy a bike himself and do the event with me because it requires you to be athletic and honestly he isnt that athletic. plus signing up to the event and organising transport costs £65 in total which is pretty expensive. and i dont even know if ill have to book a spot for my dad as well so it could be £130 in total. has anyone here ever cycled for charity before? if so you can share your experiences here.

ok i talked with my dad about this and he says that its better to do in 2027 as ill be 18 and i dont need to bring him with me.
Hey @toffuna101 how do you feel about waiting until 2027?
i feel ok i guess, i dont mind waiting until 2027 because itll give me more time to prepare.
ok i joined a guided cycling ride for the 21st of march so hopefully my trike will be assembled by then. its only for 6 miles anyways soo.
That's so exciting @toffuna101 how are you feeling about it?
im feeling good about it honestly, lets hope therell be good weather.
@toffuna101 This is so inspirational, doing a charity bike ride for BHF. Waiting until 2027 is good for giving you some time to prepare as you mentioned above. I'm curious, is this through an organised event that you can participate in?
yes its from the british heart foundation so its an organised event. however i may be able to do this event in 2026 depending on my dad and his situation with his bike. if hes fine with riding the bike then we can sign up to it. if he isnt then ill have to sign up myself for the 2027 one. which one do you yall think is better in your opinion?
A. i ride the trike with my dad by my side on his bike in 2026
pros: he'll be able to take care me to the bathroom
ill be supervised
ill do the challenge sooner
no access negotiations needed
i get support all day
the £30 entry fee is availabl
shared experience wih my dad
i can decide later if i need breaks
cons: dad has to ride with me and hes hesitant to do 20.5 miles
higher overall cost because of the £35 transport with the £30 entry fee, making it £65 overall
slightly more pressure to make it work
im relying on someone else's fitness and willingness
or
B. i ride the trike on my own in 2027
pros: lower cost
no age restriction - no accompanying adult needed
no pressure on my dad to ride
no extra £35 transport cost
more time to build strength and confidence
greater sense of independence and achievement
logistically simpler on the day
cons: toilet access needs planning
id need to email organisers about accessibility
id have to wait an extra year
slight uncertainty until access is confirmed
@toffuna101 It sounds like you've really thought this through, making a list of pros and cons for each is definitely a good way to assess your thoughts about this. I'm wondering which you feel is the better option for you?
hmm maybe 2026 because i wanna spend time with my dad.
@toffuna101 Doing the ride in 2026 so that you can share the experience with your Dad sounds so positive! Is there any way you might be able to convince him to do the ride with you if he seems hesitant?
uhh i dont know
heres an update on my situation. so my dad told me that we'll have to cycle together in 2027 because he can't afford to pay the entry fee for both of us right now.
