I have a massive fear of spiders, like I freak at the sight of them but my foster mother doesn't seem to understand it? She tells me there good and that I'm being silly. She also comment on my fear of the dark which she knows stems from trauma. I tell her that it scares me and when she gets mad at me she is just blatantly rude about it calling me babyish and annoying. I really hate her for it sometimes and just wish she understood.

Hey there @ameliawillsharevoice - thank you for sharing this, it's a really brave thing to reach out here. It sounds upsetting having your fears dismissed like that instead of being heard and understood.

I want to remind you that your feelings and fears are completely valid. Even if they seem 'silly' to other people, your fears are real and you deserve to be heard and supported. My fear of the dark also stems from trauma, so I get where you're coming from.

If you have anyone in your life who you trust or think would be supportive, it could be useful to tell them how you feel about this. And this community is always here for you if you need someone to listen or want to talk about anything

@Nemuritai thank you for actually telling me that instead of just dismissing my fears, it makes a nice change

No problem at all, you deserve to be heard and supported, and you're always welcome to share what's on your mind here

@ameliawillsharevoice I very much agree with what @Nemuritai said, and I just want to add that everything you shared makes total sense. It’s completely understandable to feel afraid of spiders or the dark, and those feelings are absolutely valid. I can hear how painful and confusing it feels when someone you live with dismisses your fears or responds with anger instead of understanding.
Even when it feels like no one around you understands, I want you to know that your feelings are real and that it takes so much courage to express them. You’re doing something really brave by acknowledging what scares you and you deserve to have your feelings respected and treated with care because they matter and you matter. We’re here for you, and you don’t have to carry this alone.

Hey @ameliawillsharevoice , thank you so much for sharing this. It sounds like you had been feeling really frightened and didn't feel that your fears were taken seriously there. How are things between you and your foster mum more generally would you say? We're here with you to listen
