There’s a new trend catching on online as we head into 2026 all about having an 'Analogue 2026' - have you seen it?
'Going analogue' is basically a trending term that means intentionally shifting from digital, screen-based activities to physical, real-world, non-digital ones, like reading books, writing hand-written notes, using paper planners, listening to vinyl, or relying on basic phones to reduce screen time.
It's a playful challenge to slow down, feel more present, and regain a sense of ownership and meaning in everyday life, mirroring perhaps a broader cultural reaction to endless doom-scrolling and a desire to spend more time outside, irl, and engaged with the physical world.
Some folks online seem to be treating this as a digital detox challenge, whereas others see it as nostalgic, impractical or just a fun meme. Others disagree, and feel that the increasing role of the internet and digital media in our life is really positive and helpful.
What do you think of the Analogue 2026 movement overall?
And are you planning to give it a go this new year, and if so, what might that look like for you?

While the internet can be a comfort space, a source of inspiration, and important representation, I do want to challenge myself next year to read more. I think that would help me to rest more and help my brain move a bit slower sometimes compared to scrolling as a way to unwind!
I think I agree like screens and everything can have a positive affect for things like usage of here or diffrent apps or things online can make things so much easier it can big negative effect in many ways too.
Ngl though we are showing our age saying this ahahaha
Going analogue sounds quite similar to when I was young before I had my first phone. I also remember in some form I went analogue during lockdown. Whilst I watched a lot of films on my laptop, I also read because I felt I didn't have as many distractions as I normally do.
For me will I be going analogue in 2026?. Honestly I'm not too sure yet but I would like to get back into reading more as well as knitting and crocheting new projects for the year.
