Reflecting on Your Year

LeylaLeyla Community Manager Posts: 614 Incredible Poster
Heyo!

We're at the end of the year now, and inspired by a young person who is part of the Comms Committee for the Winter Campaign, we want to know the answer to some prompts. If it helps, imagine you are writing a journal out and using these questions to reflect on your year!
  • What’s something you’ve learned about yourself this year?
  • Describe a small, ordinary moment from today that felt meaningful. Why did it stand out?
  • Who in your life has had a positive influence on you this year, and how can you show appreciation for them?
  • Imagine your life one year from now. What do you hope will be different and what will stay the same?
  • Write about a challenge you’ve overcome. What inner strengths did you discover through that experience?

We'd also LOVE to know what your go-to journal prompts are, so please let us know down below!

Thanks for reminding that 2026 is coming in two weeks. I feel so old.

    Anyway, here are my answers:

This year I learned that I can actually feel like I'm achieving and working towards something in college even if its doing a different course.

The only meaningful thing that stood out to me today was having a small chat with some of the community on one of the threads. The reason it was meaningful to me because I was interacting with people I like and because my life is boring and I haven't done anything else special today.

Something I would absolutely love to happen next year is for my internship to turn into paid work, I have been told if I work hard enough I could get paid work during my internship which I feel like will make my internship a bit more worth while and it also be nice reassurance as I'm concerned I will be fired the moment the internship ends or when I ask for pay. This will not happen next year but my own place would be nice, but that isn't happening with minimum wage. I don't want anything massive but a studio flat at least would be amazing.

And I have overcome no challenge that I know off anyway.

These are all very great achievements of this year and I am proud of you for getting through this month as well. I know things have been hard recently and I only hope things can start looking up and brighter for you real soon. Im sure you will be able to find paid work eventually when the time comes and im glad that you are enjoying being in college as well. I know that college can be quite difficult at times whatnot with lots of deadlines etc it can be quite tricky navigating through it all.

Wow 2025 is coming to an end already :scream: ?? To be fair this year has definitely come and flown by. I can't believe we are almost stepping into 2026 soon. I definitely feel ancient now :joy:.

2025 for me has brought many things including new adventures I'd thought I would never go on. From currently being unemployed (I still am kind of but I am on a supported internship programme) having a super long summer holiday in a way, to starting my internship. At first before I started my internship I was very unsure about doing it. Mainly because the company hosting the programme, I originally thought was a plumbing company and I would be training to be a plumber. To be honest with you I woulden't make a very good plumber neither a good electrician but from researching the company I learnt that they supply hygiene facilities all across the UK providing sanitary bins and being the top at their campaigns that they do. From going to an open day to then doing an assessment day in the boiling hot summer. I somehow landed a place on the programme and never looked back. The programme itself is aimed for young neurodivergent adults with autism or learning disabilities get into full-time employment alongside building skills to become more independent as adults. This is something I kind of needed to learn because in school I felt like I wasn't properly taught how to utilise independent living skills like paying bills or how to make the most out of a job interview etc.

There's has been some up's and down's. Life is one big rollercoaster, that's something I learnt quite recently. With my current tutor leaving the programme to do the other programme which is based in a hospital to meeting my new tutor who actually ended up being very friendly and sweet, a lot has happened in the last few months. I'm hoping 2026 is the year where things start to actually be put into place and things start happening for me. I guess what I mean by that is one of the things I want to accomplish is that hopefully by the end of the internship the company will offer me a position in their marketing department. To be fair I would like to work at this company because one they are super inclusive and helpful especially towards my needs and reasonable adjustments that make me feel more comfortable in the workplace. However, I know that it's not the end of the world if I don't get employment at the end of this. There's plenty of opportunities, some in my case may be volunteering again which ideally in the long term for me I don't want to do as much now because I actually want to get into work and start earning money.

I also applied recently for a BBC apprenticeship via their Extend programme which is aimed at neurodivergent people from underpresented backgrounds. I applied for their journalism apprenticeship because the dream job would be to either work for the BBC or working in tv and film because really that's my main passion. I mean I studied tv and film in college so it would make sense for me to go into a job that is soley focused on that. There's another apprenticeship which I will be applying for but its in production and to do with radio I believe. Before my tutor left he made sure that my new tutor was aware of that apprenticeship. So when I come back after the Christmas holidays, my new tutor is going to help me apply for it.

In terms of challenges that I overcame this year, I don't really know to be fair because I don't know if I overcame any challenges but I guess potentially doing the internship was one including also doing the hirvue process for the BBC apprenticeship application that I had to do quite recently.
