What is your favourite christmas tradition?

Who can believe it’s 16th December already?

In the lead up to christmas, I always wonder about other people’s christmas traditions.

As a child i loved the magic of coming down and shouting “Santa’s been”, but now I’m older the traditions have aged with me  But that doesn’t stop us from still saying it for a laugh when we get all the presents out.

In my house we love decorating while listening to christmas music, and making home made mince pies (we don’t make the pastry, we’re not that fancy, but it still counts). We also make jam pies, I didn’t like mince pies as a child so my mum made jam pies one year and I’ve never let her stop! I also love all the christmas specials of the usual TV shows I watch like the chase, the soaps and others.

Do you have any christmas traditions in your family/household? If you do, which is your favourite one?

Bonus question: did you have any christmas traditions as a young child that you miss now you are a bit older? I still find myself missing the magic of that Santa call!

Homemade mince pies sound yum! I've never tried to make them myself but I could be tempted now @independent_ !

My biggest Christmas tradition is having a bit of a pamper day on Christmas eve (a relaxing bath, face mask, new pjs etc.), and then watching The Polar Express with a cheese board! I can't remember a time when I didn't watch The Polar Express on Christmas Eve and it's a tradition I'm hoping to carry on forevermore

I think the tradition I miss most from when I was a child is sprinkling the reindeer dust outside my house however I guess nothing is stopping me from doing that now

'Santa's been' is so wholesome! And gaaaah I also don't like mince pies so I wish I could experience the jam pies instead, thank you for sharing and for writing this!!

Hm, my favourite childhood tradition is my dad and I would go on one of those websites that 'tracks' santa and we'd watch where he was. And then of course we'd leave milk and some carrots for the reindeers!

On the actual day my brother and I would wake up and watch the music videos of Christmas songs until my dad eventually came down!

I maybe miss the magic of waking up at like 3am or 4am and trying to will myself back to sleep excitedly so Santa would come!

@Katie honestly they’re so easy to make. No need to make pastry, you can just buy pastry and mince meat and do them that way. House smells like christmas afterwards! Christmas Eve is a birthday in my house so traditions like that are mostly banned by the birthday girl :joy: but we do usually sit down in the evening and watch all the christmas specials of shows that are on. I wonder what’s on this year!

We did reindeer dust one time! And Santa left his footprint in it! Omg we were so excited. I’m gonna have to remind my mum of this when she calls me in a bit.

@Leyla replace mince meat with jam in the aforementioned shop bought ingredient mince pies (strawberry or raspberry, up to you) and they’re amazing!

I (slightly shamefully) plan on having a look at norad to see when Santa is in Scotland, at the age of 23! My 70 year old dad also enjoys looking at it, so like, you’re never too old for a bit of imaginary magic. I also used to wake up at like 4am desperate to open presents but my parents were absolutely adamant we weren’t allowed to wake them till 8. I will never forget the one year they woke up early themselves and got excited to see us opening our presents and came and woke us!!! I would have been about 9 when that happened. Me and my sisters used to camp out in my room on Christmas Eve when we were young too and share in the excitement.

This is making me remember all the small things I did, defo gonna have to remind my parents of all this. They say they don’t miss those days, but I bet i can remind them of this stuff and make them miss it like I do!

One of my personal favourite Christmas traditions, that me and my family do every year without fail, is reading The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. My older sister comes by to read to us and she brings her husband, who is normally in the kitchen helping himself to a drink. The book itself has lift up flaps with something hidden behind and we all get a turn to look what's behind them. Then we pick out stockings put on new pyjamas then we go to bed.

Something I'm probably going to miss is going to sleep excitedly awaiting for Christmas Day and the presents I get from Santa. I remember waking up super early and trying to wake up my parents so I could start opening presents. Now, I'm probably going to be in bed at around 3am because my sleep schedule is atrocious and wake up whenever.

I really do miss staying up late waiting for Santa to arrive. When I was younger I had my stocking at the end of my bed, and I thought if I stayed up late enough I would see Santa come in. Not that I could ever stay up that late

Now that I'm older, my favourite part of Christmas is wrapping the presents for my parents beforehand and giving them out is really fun as well. Of course I'm really grateful to receive gifts but I think giving is even more exciting than receiving. I definitely didn't feel that way when I was a lot younger though lol.

Man I miss the days of being little and getting super excited for Santa to come. I always remember and a part of me still does to this day before I go to sleep, I always look out of my bedroom window to see if I can spot his sleigh flying over. Eventhough now I'm a grown up, the magic hasn't gone away though probably still feels less magical now as an adult than when I did a child.

One of my favourite things to do is on Christmas Eve I will go on the Santa tracker and I enjoy tracking him, its a bit like flight radar 47 in a way but for Santa. I just love seeing his sleigh flying over the animated digitalised globe as he delivers presents. I love watching Christmas music and occasionally a few Christmas songs. For me mostly I think it's being with my family that brings me the most joy to be fair because nothing beats being with family at home, together for me.
