I might have to finish off at counselling

I started counselling a couple of months ago because I knew I needed support and was ready to get help. At first, my mum was paying for it, but she was complaining a bit about the cost, so I took over and started paying for it myself. Even so, I overheard her saying, “Does he actually need this?” She’s said that a few times, questioning if I really need it and trying to discourage me from continuing. It’s so unfair. I’m doing something positive for myself, something I genuinely need, but she's trying to discourage it. It’s really frustrating and makes it harder to keep going when the people closest to me don’t back me up.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

    hey @BillieTheBot 🙂

i’m really proud of you for starting counselling and sticking with it, that takes strength, especially when the people around you don’t fully understand. it’s frustrating when someone close to you questions something that’s actually helping you heal and grow. you are doing something really important for your wellbeing, and just because someone else doesn’t “get it” doesn’t mean it isn’t valid.

it’s frustrating and hurtful to feel unsupported, especially by your mum, but please don’t let that discourage you. you are taking responsibility for your mental health, even paying for it yourself, that’s something a lot of people wouldn’t have the courage to do.

you are doing this for you, and that matters. if you think that counselling is beneficial for you and you want to continue with it, then please do - the only reason you should make the decision to not continue with it is because YOU are finding it to be unhelpful or no longer beneficial!

    you’ve got this <3
