Staying safe in the sun (for those who take medication)

Amy22Amy22 Posts: 5,253 Part of The Furniture
I can't believe how hot the weather has been lately and apparently today is the hottest day of the week too!. I don't know where this post exactly belongs to be fair so let me know if I put it in the wrong place. I'd thought I'd make a thread/post about staying safe in the sun especially if anyone takes medication at the moment and breaking down some tips for staying safe during this sunny season.

I take RSSI'S or antidespressant's/other form of medication. Can the sun affect me?

Yes, for those who take RSSI's, SSI'S or any type of medication such as anti-depressants which can be setraline, fluoxetine etc, we are more prove to dehydration and overheating due to the hot climate. As someone who is on fluoxetine, I find the weather can make me feel more hotter and I am prove to overheating quite quickly. Therefore, one of my top tips is to make sure that you are drinking plenty of fluid and staying hydrated!. I know sometimes it can be hard trying to make sure we are hydrated at times even I forget to drink water too as well  . I find sometimes having a reminder on a phone, or even using a water tracker can be handy. There are also water bottles you can get which measure how much you have drunk in the day to keep you on drink.

I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather at the moment, I know I have been. But I wish everyone a happy and safe week and weekend too <3. Stay hydrated.

Omg I didn’t know this!! Maybe that’s why I can’t handle the heat anymore. I think sertraline can make you more prone to sunburn? I dont know if the others have the same effect

I also only recently found out about it I think a while ago. A friend of mine inspired to make this thread because they recently said about how certain medication can make you feel hotter and dehydrated. I can definitely research whether setraline has that effect too if you'd like. It could be a possibility that the medication your on is more prone to making you feel hotter and uncomfortable in this weather. I tend to struggle with the warmer weather eventhough I do love Summer, the temperature is too much sometimes and I feel like I need to go and sit in a freezer 😂 to cool down.

It does say on the NHS website that sertraline can make you feel more dehydrated because of there being a lack of hormone of fluid I believe I don't know if what I wrote may be right but I know the NHS website can be helpful for figuring stuff out.

Aw no worries. I only knew about the medication, RSSI thing in the summer from a post a friend shared on their social media I think and I saw it on social media too. So I wanted to mention about it because for a lot of people on medication especially fluoxetine, anti depressants etc this weather can make you feel a lot more tired so it's important to stay hydrated. Even for people who aren't on any medication staying hydrated goes a long way too.
