One step as a time

I'm feeling a bit more constructive at the moment doing my course, but it's not forever which is good thing like I want to move forward into work which is what the course us for and I'm trying to figure out my next steps. I want to achieve my goals. I've seen it's common for people to not have work, and it's reassuring knowing I'm not alone, but it still makes me worry and doubt when it's actually going to happen for me. I've been struggling with sleep, sometimes waking up too early or having bad dreams, and by the time I have to get up I just feel tired and want to go back to sleep. I'm struggling a bit to get up to be honest, even though it's 7 or 8am, not like I dont get up, I just delay it like my alarm goes off and I turn it off not getting up for a few minutes, I shouldn't struggle people have to get up way earlier, like 1 or 2am, and I’ll have to do getting up early no problem when I get a job. I do get myself up and been to my course everyday but its just a some hesitation. Most people probably get up around 7/8am for a 9 to 5 job and manage it fine. I feel like it’s harder because I’m the only one in my house doing it at the moment, so that can have an impact. I think once Im getting a paid job it should become easier too because I should be driving there too.


The course it actually fairly decent, it feel constructive, there are some tasks I think are silly and irrelevant to work but its stuff like building skills like team working skills, communication skills. I just hate getting the bus there. I wish I could drive, but it’s hard with it being in the city centre and parking being a nightmare. On top of all that, I’ve recently had a few fallouts with multiple different people, which has added more stress.

    @Redemption your making progress mate, one step at a time. That fear of whether things will actually happen for you, i get it too. I totally understand it and it's a scary thought to have. But right now, you are making progress bit by bit. The routine thing can be changed bit by bit as well. You are getting up and attending your course, your powering through and it will become easier bit by bit over time as it becomes normalised for you.

    You are doing well at the minute. It's hard to think sometimes, but doing well isn't about doing better than all the people around you. It's about doing better than your past self. And you are bro. This course is helping you and your improving with it.

    It sounds really positive that in some ways you are feeling constructive right now by attending your course. Absolutely! And as you said, even while the course itself is not paid work, it sounds like it could be a really valuable stepping stone towards building confidence and preparing to enter the workplace. I know you also mentioned how the course facilitators have been offering you feedback on your CV too which sounds like really practical support and help. I can imagine that attending the course might lead to 'transferable skills' such as teamwork for example or communication skills, all of which are then so valuable within the workplace as an employee. And in that sense, it sounds like attending this course might be a really positive step!

    At the same time, I do hear what you're saying about how badly you simply want to be working and earning money. It's been a long while now that you've been job-hunting, and there are days where the waiting starts to feel extremly hard and heavy. You're so ready for a change now, I hear you, and all of us here on Community see you working towards tha.

    I hear you saying too about how tough it's been to get out of bed lately, though at the same time, you have been managing to still attend your course every day. It sounds hard to be having those nightmares and disrupted sleep. That's tiring. I know personally I find waking up really hard physically - it takes me about 5 times of snoozing my alarm to wake up, and I think if I let my body sleep I'd probably naturally wake up every day around 11am. So I think sleep and wake-up times can really differ from person to person, and its valid if a 7am/8am wake-up feels hard for your body. I know i'd feel exactly the same waking up at that time! What helps you to feel more refreshed once you are awake?

    @Sian321 Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your own experiences too, it honestly means a lot. I think getting my day in action really does help me feel more refreshed, whether that’s doing something I enjoy or just coming on this community, it gives me a bit of momentum instead of feeling stuck. As for the fallouts, they were just a couple of issues with people from football and a bit of family stuff too, so it’s been a bit stressful. But I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and relating, I actually feel a bit better knowing that someone I really look up to here, a staff member from the community I love, understands and can relate. You’re so so kind @Sian321 and it genuinely helps more than you know. I remember when I first saw you in my pms and I realised you were so nice. Thanks so much Sian.
