Don't want to go football

I don’t know if this is the right place for this but I dont want to go football on Sunday. It has been pretty boring lately and most of the time I’m just checking my watch waiting for it to end. I have seen a few people get injured and when I say injured I mean bad injuries and there has been some kicking off now and then which puts me off. I even had a minor injury myself a few weeks in when I hurt my finger. It still isn’t fully straight and I might need to get it X-rayed. On top of that I’m really not that good at football and probably just end up diluting whichever side I’m on. It is just a little 5 or 6-a-side but I don’t feel like I add much. The only real benefit is the exercise but there are other ways to get that without all the stress and boredom.

They sometimes ask to go for a drink after and while I can see the appeal a bit it feels like it is being made into something bigger than just a football group. Honestly it also feels a bit childish for some reason. I used to go to Boys Brigade as a kid and being at football sometimes makes me feel like I’m some kid again. I don’t really know how to explain it but it feels like a kids’ thing a bit like Boys Brigade did back then. So yeah I think I’d rather just stay at home.

Hey @Redemption , thank you for this post!

It sounds like you're beginning to notice your feelings towards football changing, esspecially as you see other people getting injured. I can imagine that might make you apprehensive!

You also mentioned there that you feel you're not really that good at football and that sounds tough - what's that been like for you? It can feel a bit self-concious when we do something that we don't feel very confident in, and it takes courage to show up as you have been doing!

The fact that the activity and drinking afterwards all feels a bit childlish to you is valid - perhaps you're feeling like its just not the right 'fit' for you anymore?

Might there be a different activity you would prefer to do or try out? Or maybe, as you said, staying home would feel best? What are you thinking?

@Sian321 Thanks for your message I appreciate it I’ve never really been fully into football to be honest especially playing it, I find it boring I just went along just for exercise but lately seeing people get injured it makes me a bit worried and the drinking and maybe it’s time to try something different or just take a break.

@Redemption , that makes sense and that's absolutely valid! It sounds like the sessions arn't really offering you what you came for anymore, and you're wanting something a little bit different?

You said that you originally started for the exercise, and I wonder if there's a different type of sport that you might want to give a go?

@Sian321 yh that's pretty much right. I'm thinking of buying a bike or go swimming instead.
