interview

hey🙂

i have an interview today at a nursery / after school setting for a 1-2-1 sen assistant, which i would absolutely love but im stressing so much about the interview:/ i know feeling stressed about an interview is a fairly normal experience, but i feel it to extreme levels - i often feel unable to even breathe when it gets closer to the time…

i’m just super anxious about how i don’t have relevant experience etc but in reality i have:
-level 2 youth work

-level 1 mentoring for young people

-level 2 safeguarding children certificate

-extensive safeguarding training through voluntary roles

-have a job working with children

-volunteered in a primary school for 1 year, specifically with sen children

-volunteer with shout therefore encounter children

-completed several cpd courses in disability awareness, adverse childhood experiences, trauma awareness etc

-currently completing level 3 health & social care

i think that’s all?

so realistically, i do have a lot of things i can pull knowledge and situation examples from but in my mind, i feel like i dont? i guess its because my main job has always been the airport, i have nearly 4 years experience there mostly on a full time basis so have (unfortunately) spent sooo many hours of my life in the airport and got a lot of experience from it.

i also have an interview this afternoon too for a youth support worker role - its only a few hours per week on a monday evening so it’s reliant upon the interview this morning as my airport job is not about flexibility so at least i know for sure that the nursery / afterschool setting does not have shifts from 10pm-3am etc, it’s specifically 12pm-6pm they’re advertising for so that works absolutely fine for me!

i also didn’t realise until i was in work saying about looking elsewhere for jobs that once we have been employed for 3 months, we must give 1 months notice - no thank you lol so i gotta be handing my notice in by tuesday latest to only have to give a weeks notice - is it appropriate to state this at my interview today? i’m unsure, i don’t want to sound needy or whatever - i was thinking of one of my questions for them being “when should i expect to hear back about the outcome?” and then base it of that? i don’t know lol

ok update it really wasn’t THAT bad lol

i feel like it went semi ok? not amazing but also not awful? she said that those who are successful will find out on friday afternoon via a phone call so that works perfect in terms of my notice period being 1 week as long as i hand my notice in by monday but she asked about my notice too (i’ve never been asked this for an interview before haha) so i said on or before monday, 1 week then anything after, 1 month.

i’m now going to drive home, mentally preparing myself for college work then at around 3pm start preparing for my other interview which is at 4:30pm (grateful it’s over teams)

proud of myself for actually going because i literally text my employment support officer with “i can’t do this i might drive home again” moments before haha

sooo update on interview number 2 - it was actually a super lovely interview!!

there was only 4 questions which i was glad about as my brain is tired lol - they asked about what experience i have in this area, what are common issues young people face, what would i do if someone disclosed being abused & how to develop and maintain professional relationships - all such lovely questions to answer yay
