Revision Body Double Study Sessions! 📚

What’s that? Deadlines are coming? Exam season has come around again?!

We know that this is a stressful time for a lot of people, whether you’re in school, college, uni, or even have general deadlines at work to stick to. We want to create a space where you folks can have 90 mins to try to get some work done at the same time as everyone else in a group chat space, with dedicated time for working and special breaks to share your learning or achievements with the rest of the group. The idea is to mimic a group study session where everyone else working can help motivate you to get some things done too and reduce procrastinating, only it is done through a chatroom!

These will be on Mondays from 5.00pm-6.30pm and Saturdays from 11.00am-12.30pm during the month of May. These would be commencing from Saturday 10th May!

These are open to everyone as long as you have a task to be getting on with, e.g. revision, homework, coursework, emails, applying for jobs etc.

If you look below, there is a plan of how the sessions would look. They are designed to help you power through your work with focused work periods and sandwiched with chat breaks. We'll be using the Pomodoro Technique, which involves alternating focused work intervals with short breaks. This session will be 90 minutes long and will include optional study music, focused work periods, quick breaks for water and stretching, a chat break to share progress and ask questions, and a final wrap-up to celebrate achievements.
Introductions & Session Goals (5 minutes)
Briefly introduce yourself and what you hope to accomplish during the session.
Invite others to share their goals for the session.

Focused Work with Study Music (optional) (25 minutes)
The moderator will share a link to optional study music (feel free to mute it if you prefer silence).
Set a timer for 25 minutes and focus on your revision goals.

Optional Break (water, stretch) (5 minutes)
Take a moment to recharge with some water.

Focused Work (25 minutes)
Repeat the focused work period for another 25 minutes.

Chat Break (10 minutes)
Share your progress and achievements with the group.
Ask questions or offer help to others.

Focused Work (25 minutes)
One last focused work period for 25 minutes.

Wins & Wrap-up (10 minutes)
Celebrate everyone's achievements!
Briefly discuss any key takeaways or next steps for future study sessions.

Let us know if you think you'll be coming in the poll below!

i would love this but not really ideal when it’s at 11-12:30 on a monday - literally everyone i know who is in education is in classes during that time lol so as much as it would help me, i won’t be able to join as im in class🙃

anyways my exam is 12th may and deadlines within next 3 weeks as in northern ireland summer for colleges starts the1st week of june so i’ll be basically finished the year by the time first session is on - last deadline is 9th may.

@shannon_164 Thank you for the feedback! We were under the impression that a lot of people would be on study leave for a lot of May and June, but you guys know best! Does anyone else have any insight into whether their school has study leave or not?

Im not in any form of education anymore, but i know where im from no school or collage has study leave - university is a bit different.
This is due to people taking advantage of study leave and not actually doing any prep for exams they would just go out an socialise etc

i know for northern ireland specifically, it’s only schools really that get study leave - it’s not a thing in colleges or universities! all college courses finish 30th may here too (for schools, they will all finish the last week of june for summer) with the first week of june being used for unit retakes / tidying up eg form signing - typically the official teaching finishes late march for us and we then just have coursework to complete / exams to revise for which then take place in may and june for most, though some courses only have exams in january.

in all honesty, i don’t know of anybody who’s actually getting study leave this year lol

Thank you for the feedback, seems it doesn't happen like it once did, it's really useful to know! I think the latest we could do on a Monday would be 3.30-5.00, would that be better for any of you folks?

That sounds like a really significant change that schools are stopping study leave now! Thanks for sharing your feedback!

Reminder that the first Monday Body Doubling Session is on in 15 mins! (15.30pm today). Join Lily and I for some hardcore concentration

Thank you for joining @Lily and I today!! We hope you're finding these helpful during exam season!

We noticed the turnout today wasn't as high as Saturday which makes sense because it isn't a weekend. If we did a time like 4.30-6 or 5-6.30 on Mondays, would that be better for anyone to attend? We really want it to be inclusive for as many people as possible and try to ensure we have something scheduled for each day of the week where we can, even if we need to tweak our own schedules

If you could comment which one you'd prefer out of these options on a Monday, that would be amazing!

It’s in no way relevant to me as I’m not in education and haven’t been for a loooong time (that hurts my brain) but when I was, times before 4pm rarely suited. Mostly because not only was finish time usually around then for both school and college I then had to get the bus home, so perhaps a later time would suit more people.

A note also that study leave is still the norm in Scottish schools, so it’s not been scrapped everywhere - but I gather the majority of schools in other parts of the UK no longer have it. Further education courses tend to finish at the end of May here too, so this is probably a good time to run sessions like this for those last assignments.

@independent_ Thank you for the insight! Just a quick note that whilst it is mainly worded towards people who have revision to do, if anyone has any type of task to get done then feel free to come along! Whether its folding laundry, emails, texting back that person you've been putting off for 2 weeks. We want as many people as possible to feel they have a space to be productive (Especially during the exam period hehe)

@Leyla ooh that’s good to know, thank you <3 There’s always laundry. It never ends.

Hi all! We will be trialling 5.00-6.30 on Monday 19th to see if this works any better for the majority of people. Hope to see you there!
