Had a weird dream and cant stop thinking about it

Amy22Amy22 Posts: 5,134 Part of The Furniture
Im probably going to waste your time with this but I had a weird bad dream the other night and I cant stop thinking about it. I had a dream that I had a bee buzzing in my right ear and I can still hear the dream a bit now and then. My right ear does feel a bit mutt and jeff (which means slightly muffled cause I think I got a cold). I have been anxious lately as well I think because I haven't been doing much and im not in employment and maybe thats what is happening right now I dont know. I just feel anxious for no reason at all I rarely have this. sorry for wasting time on here I know this sounds silly.

Thank you so much, its just that I dont know my anxiety has been affecting me and I got nothing to worry about to be fair theres nothing on my mind so why am I anxious. I should have a reason but I dont right now, I just hate the feeling. I also wanted to put it out as someone who is also afab (assigned female at birth, I dont know if its because of my time of month is due and it affects my mood and anxiety). I should be having a doctors appointment/medication review soonish some time so maybe I can talk more about things.

Hey @Amy22 , how are you today? Thank you so much for making this post. It can be hard to open up when a part of us is thinking, 'am I just being silly?', but I'd like to assure you that your feelings matter and you're welcome to share anything here that's on your mind.

It sounds like the dream you had felt really unsettling, esspecially because when you woke up you could still feel that sensation of buzzing or things being muffled in your ear due to your cold. I can imagine that being really uncomfortable, and it is valid that you felt anxious too.

I wonder, had you noticed yourself feeling anxious under the surface before the dream, or perhaps it began the day after? I hear you saying that you don't know why you feel so anxious, and that can be really difficult too sometimes because it sounds like your body is going through an experience that you don't fully understand? It is okay to not know the reason, and even acknolwedging this anxiety is such a positive step in listening into yourself and getting curious about what you might need. It's okay not to have all the answers right now.

How would you describe your anxiety at the moment? I wonder if there has been anything or anyone that helps when it gets loud? We're all here to listen if you'd like to share more about this.

I will share below some resources too around anxiety if helpful:
There's an organisation called Anxiety UK which offers support and information for people who experience anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders, social anxiety and associated depressions. You can book a call with an advisor on their website for their service called Tauk to us. You can also call 03444 775 774 to receive automated information on their service. This is available 24/7. Their email address is support@anxietyuk.org.uk and you can also go to their website for more information, or for their counselling services at https://www.anxietyuk.org.uk/

DARE Panic and Anxiety Relief is an app designed for people coping with worry, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, insomnia, or panic attacks - helping you to regain confidence and live life at its fullest. While certain parts of the app require payment to be unlocked, there are hundreds of free features and the app itself is free to download. Some of the apps' free features include a bank of "SOS" step-by-step audioguides to help you calm down during a panic attack and to manage your intrusive thoughts, based on the evidence-based DARE technique by Barry McDonagh (BA, Dip Psych). The app also includes free breathing exercises, soothing meditations, and motivational 'pep talks' to help encourage and reassure you. It can be downloaded on the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.

Grounding techniques are sensory awareness exercises or breathing techniques. They aim to temporarily bring your attention away from difficult thoughts and feelings by inviting you to focus on your environment, your breathing, or to distract you instead.

If this sounds helpful, you may wish to try some of these YouTube videos if ever you're struggling. These can be accessed free via a laptop, computer, or your phone and listened to out loud or with headphones for privacy:

@Sian321 thank you so so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. I think for me lately when reflecting and reading on your message, my anxiety might be because at the moment I haven't been very busy much and also I am currently unemployed so at the moment I am mostly at home to be fair. I guess I like my brain being busy you know because I find sometimes when things are too quiet I get anxious and I know that sounds very weird or cheesy but its like I need noise sometimes. Also thanks for the meditation videos too, I tend to use the headspace breathing one a lot especially the reset one as well!. I'll definitely have a look out for these in the future too. I am feeling much better this week. I guess I just had a week where I felt anxious for no reason.

@Amy22 Sometimes we have weeks like that and there isn't necessarily a reason we can point to, and that's valid too, but we're all super glad you're feeling better this week :)
