hey @nem - it can be really difficult to get diagnosed, or even just listened to at all sadly:(

i know from my experience, having evidence from professionals for long enough wasn’t enough to even get anywhere!!! though now, i am finally being listened to.

i’m sure you have already done this, but definitely do your research n everything to help support you with being listened to by professionals if you want to look into it further - it helps a lot.

wait lists are also really long too sadly, so even when you are listened to, you’ll have a ridiculously long time to wait!

i hope it works out for you❤️

@nem I got diagnosed privately, which was quicker but is more expensive. You have to think of whether you can pay more not to wait or wait longer not to pay as much honestly

Hi @nem I hear that you are feeling like you may have autism and that this is something you want to explore more. As someone who is autistic themselves, I can definitely recomend getting it checked out and talking about it because eventhough technically I had my official diagnosis when I was six years old, you can still get a diagnosis later in life and I have known lots of people especially close friends who have had later diagnosis for autism. I will be honest the journey for getting a diagnosis is tough but this is not to say not to get one, you still can it will be a lot of work and especially researching and also finding a good GP who can help with the diagnosis, as I know sometimes professionals can not always be that helpful when discussing neurodiversity in general. Its just a case of finding someone who gets and understands it in a way. Generally I think you would have to go to your local GP first to discuss about your feelings on this as they can explore your options and discuss with you what you can do. I know there is also the option of getting a private diagnosis as well especially because whatnot with the ongoing waiting lists at the moment for diagnosis it can be super hard so that is also another option to explore eventhough it may be a bit of a costly one.

It's definitely something to look into and also research because if you are able to get an official diagnosis it can be super helpful when applying for things as well as opening doors to getting more support and also some perks too to help with daily living and stuff. It may be a long road ahead but please dont give up because eventhough it may seem tough at times, I am sure that you will get what you need right now. It's just a case of continuing to fight for that extra support that you need and also deserve because the thing with a autism diagnosis is that when we have that it can open more doors and it can be beneficial for applying for things. Not only this but it can help us better understand our identity too. Im always here too if you ever want to chat or discuss things as I am more than happy to help <3.
