The mask poem

I actually have 2 versions of this

Version 1
The mask

I wear a mask so people don’t see
All the things that are going on inside me
People don’t want to see me feeling sad or down
They want to see my smile, never my frown

I wear a mask so people don’t know
That I feel lost and don’t know where to go
I need to act like I know my path
So when I’m with my friends I smile and laugh

I wear a mask so people can’t hear
My internal cries or my screams of fear
I have to be brave and be alright
I only let it slip when I’m alone at night

I wear a mask so people can’t feel
My negative energy from which I try to heal
I don’t want to create an atmosphere as thats not fair
So when I’m with others I hide my despair

I wear a mask because you see I don’t want others to think there’s something wrong with me.

Version 2

Close your eyes and count to three.
Be the person you must pretend to be.
Put on a mask to hide your pain.
Push down the feelings you need to contain.

Hide away when it gets too much.
It's so damn hard when you feel out of touch.
Put on a mask and force a smile.
Pretend everything is fine for a while.

Eat in front of others so they think you're ok.
Don't let them see when your mood is grey.
Put on a mask and hold your head high.
Don't tell a sole you really want to cry.

Laugh out loud and pretend to have fun.
Even when inside you feel really glum.
Put on a mask and do what you’re told
No one can know about the demons you hold

Put on a mask so no one will know
The internal struggles that are ruining your glow
