Problem with a purge it means a lot of people die for the sake of the many. It's like sacrificing people. We also don't know that it would end it faster - it might mutate and become deadlier as it spreads from person to person.

Every person in the world would catch it and it would literally be survival of the fittest - which may like I said mutate into something deadlier.

So let me reword your question -

Would you like a pandemic where the government suppresses the virus and gives us some extra time to try and get a vaccine and learn more about the disease and try to save as many as possible or a purge where many people are guaranteed to die in the hopes that it doesn't mutate into something deadlier.
