Hey @HelenH123 <3 Welcome to the boards mate.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're self-harming. Do you know what your feelings behind self-harming are (no pressure)? I think one of the best ways to deal with these problems, is to tackle them by the roots. For example, maybe you get overwhelmed, and self-harm has a calming effect to you. We're here if you'd like to talk some more about stuff <3

There's many ways that people try to cope with and replace self-harm. To name just a couple:
    • Draw a butterfly where you want to harm. Choose something you care about that it represents, name it after a loved one... Just make it special to you. This can help some people because they won't want to hurt the butterfly.
    • Or you could draw on your skin in itself. I find doing that calming.
    • Snap a rubber band against your skin - to cause pain, but not any damage.

It's positive that you want to stop doing this, and I'm wishing you all the best <3

Welcome to the boards @HelenH123 it's lovely to have you here!

I've just moved your thread over to our Health and Wellbeing section as it fits a bit better here and will hopefully be seen my more people. I've also changed your thread title for you too :)

Kathleen have given some excellent advice already. Just to echo what she's said, it's so positive that you're reaching out for support. I'm really glad you found The Mix and I hope we can help support you through this.

We have an article on our website about self-harm coping tips and distractions which you find helpful to read through. Have you tried any coping tips that Kathleen has suggested or any mentioned in this article before?

    Hope you're doing okay <3
Maybe somethings don't get better, but we do. We get stronger. We learn to live with our situations as messy and ugly as they are. We fix what we can and we adapt to what we can't. Maybe some of us will never fully be okay, but at least we're here. We're still trying. We're doing the best we can. That's worth celebrating too ❤

    Welcome Helen

have you tried the app Calm Harm. ? https://calmharm.co.uk/ It may be helpful. Lots of things work differently for others. Theres always a reason for self harming and while coping skills help - they dont get rid of the reason.
We are here to listen if you wanna talk about whats going on?

“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley
