Life after uni

What do people do other than work after they graduate? If student life is all you've really known. Where do you meet people, make new friends etc?

    Hi Ybe7! This is a very good question, and of course everyone will be different. I personally started work and made a real effort to socialise at work events whilst I found out who I really got on with. I also joined some local sports/gym and met more people that way. If you work in a town or city there are often all sorts of meet up groups- what type of hobbies etc do you enjoy? I'd say just get Googling!

    There's a good article on what to do after university, but as it sounds like the social side is your bigger questions maybe this article on meeting people and making new friends would be a good read.

    Thanks Caf but I don't really see myself socialising with people at work other than maybe going for drinks after work just because it's work. And what sort of local sports did you join just out of interest. And what are meet up groups? I always thought those were for retired people.

    Hi Ybe7 sorry for the delay! I do netball and running in my area. I've also tried dance classes and craft classes in the past. Friends of mine do things like languages too.

    Meet up is here - it's much more young and modern now, i know a few people who've met good friends through it.

    Don't underestimate work either, you never know. Are you working somewhere different to Uni or your original home location?

    Thanks for that Cat and sorry I completely forgot about this thread. I am working somewhere different to my uni location and the area I went to school so I don't really know anyone here. And work is a very professional corporate environment and most people there are also over 30, married and have kids so don't have much time for making new friends or socialising.

    As I'm still a student and can't really help with this, just wanted to pop in and say that I have friends like a few years older than me, who have left Uni, and are pretty much in the same place, not knowing what to do, where to go from here, where to find a job. But then I have a few who are at work, who are looking for future marriage parthners and all that m'larky, but then also doing group volunteer work, like working in LGBT Societies oh and volunteering.
