Surely it would have been better to research the uni before applying? No? Nevermind, silly me.

Whilst I've got an offer from there, I know nothing about the uni, simply because I put it down to fill up space.

Although I've heard mixed reports, everything ranging from "It's a shithole" to "It's not too bad". Good luck with it, either way.

Im going to Leicester in September!
I've been once and I thought it was fine - not a brilliant department but a good reputation. I didnt get to see much of the area - what do you think of Leicester as a place? Have you seen much of the accommocation there? Because its my 2nd choice (but i know i wont get into my 1st!) I wont be guaranteed anywhere, but I still have to choose.

1st UMIST
2nd Leicester

What do you think and what are yours?

i thought the accomodation was sum of the better ones that i have seen, quite impressed with the catered halls but they said to view self catered if u decide to do that!
leicesters my first choice so hope all goes well for ya and if u dont go to umist, mite c u in sept!!!!!

my best 'girlie' mate went to leicester and has had the bestest time in teh world ever. she lived in digby halls - really cool catered halls in oadby (45 mins from the city center) the halls are set in botanical gardens so there are loads of nice gardens and stuff right outside to lounge in in the summer. The halls are huge old victorian houses that look really cool and are nice inside. one downside is that u may have to share a bedroom with 1/2 other people but the rooms are huge. The uni life is excellent and from what i saw on my visits its a wicked place to go.

Thanx !

I love to admit im known as the UMIST girl..... just becuase i turned it down!!! lol

Leicester's not brilliant but it's better than some of the scumholes ive visited. Im goign to sheffield hopefully so if anyone can let me know about that........much appeciated.

As for the halls, they are in oadby which is my area and they're all of 20 minutes away, just walk down london road and you're sorted. Ummmmmm the towns duller but where the students are around it's alright. What do you want to know???? leva a messga ehere or e-mail moi!!!!

Did you turn UMIST down for a bad reason?

Im hoping to reply in the next few days - what do you think about my order (have you any reason for me to swap them round:

1. UMIST
2. Leicester

With the grades im probably going to get, I doubt I will get into UMIST therefore it would go to Leicester. That means im not guaranteed accommodation with Leicester - so maybe cos I know im prob not gonna get umist's grades, u think i should put leicester 1st to get into some better accommodation?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Im quite forgetful and posted reply today, so im def goin!!!!!!
wat u goin to study????

and kat: can u recommend ne gud clubs in leicester?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Crazy Gal, im thinking about putting Leicester 1st to secure some better accommodation (as I prob wont get into my other choice(s)).

What do you think?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Erm it depends, if u know for a fact that u aint gona get the grades i would say leicester but u never know u mite suprise yourself and get the grades and then mite regret not going to UMIST!!!!!
Sorry not being very helpful but think u gota make decision!!!

Theres a few in leciester really depending on what you are after. Industria is tiny costs £10 on sat night but has some good stuff going on. Then there is the main on Creation whcih is quite new. Free till 11pm then about £5 or £6 depending if you're a member. Creations my place i spend a fair bit of time there.
Theres fanclub for the indie ppl.....lol they all dance pogo there.
Quebec if you're into the gay scene and thennnnnnnnnn theres the bars.

I'll prob see you about town if you do decide to live here.

Lord..... i turned down UMISt because for a start the grades were higher than sheffield and sheffield was better. The building ere a bit scrubby but new inside so thats all good. It depends what subject youre doing. I'm assuming it's management or something????

Its actually comp sci. I could put Leeds instead of umist, its further away from home (which could be better!) as leeds/umist want the same grades. its just umist that offers slightly better in accommodation (mostly).

If that makes any sense?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I got into leeds tooo. They were the same grades as UMIST. Where are you from now?
Honestly it's up to you. Leicester uni's alright and i had a quick peak at the accomodation today and it looks nice. JUst go where your heart says. if the worst comes to the worst put them in a hat and pick one out. You'll know if you want the one you pick out. If i was you i'd get the form sent back fairly quick seemign the post is slow these days.

Im in Merseyside/just above Liverpool. I was planning on replying over the internet - the ucas site has a thing where you can do that now.

The only thing playing on my mind is that i wont get the leeds/umist grades so that would send me to my 2ns choice - but i could put leicester (lower grades wanted) in 1st to get into better accomm. no other reason really.

I was gonna reply last week - it will hve to be next week now!

Do you live in Leicester? where are you wanting to go?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
i live in leicester (im not a studnet though so really no point in postin this)
ok i will go now.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Yeah i do live in leicester. The same area as the uni and the accomodation.

What grades for Leicester do you need??
What do you need for leeds/umist???

Ive got friends doing comp science at leciester next year so i'll ask them what they thought bout the department.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I need BBB for leeds and umist. Leicester want point in a strange combination but its lower than the others.

I'd be interested to hear what your friends think of it, thanks Kate.

Sorry i took so long to get back. Right well Amar is off there lves it even though i was teasing him to bits about walking 1 min further to Uni than college...... You'll understand if you go there. My offers were higher than that for UMIST and Leeds..... thats why i declined them. I reckon you make a choice and go for it!! Leics is ok, it's very ethnic......... you may think thats good or bad!!! but people like it!
