Bruised Ribs

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
So I went out New Years Eve, got absolutely wankered and can't remember hardly anything.

I woke up with bruised ribs, but more worst on one side. It hurts when I breathe in deeply and out, also when I cough, laugh and walk. (and sneeze cos I was gonna die a minute ago!)

I know if I went to hospital they wouldn't really be able to do anything. And I asked friends and they said ''you hit the floor, but your drinks didn't spill!'' so not sure if there would be something more internal.

B-A has already given me some good advice, just wanted to know if going to hospital would have a point to it or would be a waste of the NHS and my time?

    I hope you're okay!

I would personally go to hospital just to get checked out, worth finding out whether it's something or nothing (probably nothing) It's not a waste of anyones time, it's their job.

    *hug*

You may have cracked a rib which is often the cause of side pain especially if you had a fall which your friend said you had. Its worth getting it checked out though. Have you got a walk in centre near you? That way you could get it looked at without having to go to a&e.

Aye. But I've not been in there since Friday 13th (they must be so proud!) And I don't want to make a habit of going there basically every week for 2014.

Maybe call the GP tomorrow and see if you can get an appointment. Or phone NHS direct or 111 as piccolo said

Are black bruises blood under the skin by any chance?

A bruise = blood under the skin.

I know that... But with black bruises I was just wondering. As I'm pretty sure I heard from someone that it can be worst?

Can't get a doctors appointment until Tuesday either.

Haven't convinced myself it's serious yet...

If I struggle with breathing more during the night, I'll go up to A&E

    Don't forget, A&E isn't your only option.

You can at this time of day ask for a call back from a gp or visit a minor injuries unit or walk in.

My GP is on holiday. Which I did tell the staff (cos I had to pick up meds anyway) at this time, I'd happily see a male doctor.

I'm wondering how Jane manages to get me one on the same day, and doesn't phone up at 8.

The walk in centre is a two hour walk, as I have no money tomorrow.

Isn't the minor injuries bit in A&E?

Minor injuries isn't always co-located with A&E, and is often a different unit even when it is.

Oh okay. May have to have a mooch on the web to see where it is.

If the walk in centre was closer I'd go there.

    .

I know from bruising my ribs a number of times and also having cracked ribs that there isn't much A and E will do for you. If it is bruising they will tell you to rest and maybe give you anti inflammatories (ibuprofen is good and cheap from anywhere you go) and if it is cracked/chipped then again, you need to rest. I think if it was anything more severe then you'd have been in hospital by now, and you'd not be able to cope. It's good that you're able to be on here and have managed over the last few days as it means it's nothing too bad. Ibuprofen and paracetamol can be taken together and work rather well - don't go over the suggested dose on the box though. I hope you manage to rest up and the pain eases off :)

    Bruised Ribs

    Went to hospital.

Had X-ray and I have muscular damage. Ouchies.

Should be healed in a few weeks!

Thank you for your encouragement and support! Really do appreciate it :)
