Anyway to make electronics overheat slower?

Our router is on the carpet at the moment, i suspect (not sure why, gut feeling) is there anyway to stop it overheating and stopping it knocking our net off?

defintly take it off the carpet...not entirely sure of the physics behind it but they make things heat up far far quicker...so like calvin said defintly take it off it and puut it on a plate, tile or even a bit of wood maybe

You need to be able to let the air get underneath and around it and thick fabrics like a carpet will stop that, so yea, something hard

If there's dust in it, that can make it overheat faster. If you can, open it up and use an air can to clean it out.
