    But something's scent is made up of little particles of that substance, so wouldn't these have a calorific value?

    Nothing significant. There is nothing in you lungs or your nose to allow you take on calories.

    Yes, there will be food particles in the air, and some of these will settle on lining of your airways, where the mucus system will transport them to your mouth and you will swallow them, they will be digested and you will gain some energy from them.

    I would be amazed if this amounted to more than 5 calories a day.

    On the other hand, being around those smells will stimulate your appetite, and make you inclined to eat more.
