Illness?!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Apparently, my friend thinks I have an 'illness' and to be quiet honest, I'm thinking thats pretty down right out of order for her to say...
She and loads of other people are 'worried' so they bitch and jump to conclusions behind my back?

I'm fine. Just because I'm not with my friends at lunch (because I'm doing revision) I have an illness?
What type of illness could that be?!
Does anyone else think thats out of order? :S

Your friends being concerned about you is no reason to get angry at them, as long as they are genuinely concerned and not just spreading misinformed gossip.

When they talk about 'an illness' I can only assume that they are judging based on their perception of your mood. So they are possibly talking about depression, or some kind of disorder that would make you withdraw from social situations.

The fact is that, in your own words, you have withdrawn from socialising in order to revise. If you simply explained that to them then you could probably stop the problem. Explain that your exams matter a lot to you, that you feel behind (or whatever) and that you just want to give yourself the best chance of passing. If they don't understand that then they need to grow up a little. It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong, perhaps you could just communicate a little better if you haven't already tried.

I have said that! I said I'm revising because I feel clueless and that i don't have a clue, but then they always go
"But you do so much revision!" but it doesn't change the fact, I have exactly said what you told me to say a million times before.

And my mood, I make sure I'm all chirpy and in a good mood - and this 'friend' thinks if a person is unhappy for a split second that they're 'depressed' she doesn't have a clue!

I really doubt they're worried, I'm just seeming to be a person they bitch about alot... leave me alone!

Okay, so then they really need to let you get on with being responsible and they can get on with overreacting and being judgemental. It sounds like you have tried to get it through to them. Perhaps they are just a bit immature and naive.

You are doing the right thing and are focusing on what is more important. Good on you.

I don't really want to keep bringing up the subject..
But this is what my friend said is being said... and I just think this is just a really out of order thing to say to other people...
Because say if I did have some 'illness' it would be really insensitive to say that to other people... I think it's not really something suitable to say..

i know how you feel hun, when i was at school i used to spend alot of time in the ICT office at school it was the only place i could be without any distractions, it was quite and i could feel safe and happy there to revise, and my friends would say that there is something wrong with me doing that and it should be spending time with them at school not doing that.

But just let them rant on and say things when they say something to you just nice and calmly say ok and they will shut up as they have nothing to argue back with, you dont have to explain yourself to your friends, you do what you want to do not what others want u to do.

They may think that you have all the time in the world to revise as the saying goes kids should be kids but Unfortunately you dont, i think it is great u are revising and you want to do well at school. Keep at it and you will go far in life =]

Good luck for your exams x

keep up the revising, it's good to get into to patterns where you can self-motivate in life. It's also good to find a balance between study/work and play, and... it's also good to know which friends are worth priviledging above work/study, and which aren't. If they are being catty, they are probably not worth your friendship, or at least not worth you prioritising them above things that will get you on in life.

In life, everything comes with a cost.

The cost in this case is going out with friends, since you value your future.

Good friends would understand this, so by telling them this, they should not be taken aback.

Just think. In the future, you'd be making big bucks whilst they struggle. lol.. :d :d
