Ok so ive been to the doctors before (about self harm mostly, but other similar things too) an nothing came of it an ive seen my school counellor and another councellor and none of it worked for me. I dont know what to do now or where to turn to. anyone been through CAHMS or however you spell it? is it helpful? anyone done anything other than councelling that helped?

i was in the CAMHS system from aged 14 up until I was too old. when i was there i thought it was shit, mental health is very poorly funded and there isn't enough time and resources to go round. but compared to the adult services it's much better. it's hard work though and you have to co-operate and go along with what they want you to do. i didn't find it overly helpful but i was very young and it probably did me some good looking back on it.
it all depends on your GP, that's the only way you can access anything specialist within the NHS. they might decide that care within the GP surgery is more appropriate; a lot of trusts now are moving towards having CPNs and counsellors in GP surgeries regularly rather than sending people to the mental health clinics. be aware also that you get a referral you will probably be on a huge waiting list to see the psychiatrist or consultant and then on another long list waiting for psychotherapy or counselling. it all depends on how many people are already waiting.
good luck with it if you do decide to go to your GP x
this is pretty common and if you get knocked back when you ask for help it can put you off trying again. but if you feel you can't cope alone you must let someone help you. you won't be like this forever, things can change, but it might be that you can't change them alone.
the only way you can get back in the CAMHS system is through your GP. but if you've been referred before, the chances are that they will offer you some help this time, on the grounds that you haven't improved on your own. remember that you can ask to see a different GP if you don't like the one you've seen before, either at the same surgery or by enrolling at a different one. also, if you do get a referral to the mental health services and they don't offer you further help you can ask for another assessment with a different psychiatrist, although that does mean putting yourself through the ordeal again.
basically, if you want help then keep pushing for it. i've let the MH services discharge me and i really wish i hadn't. it's true that they are underfunded and can only help in serious cases, but if you are feeling very bad and self-harming then you are one of those serious cases.
well i may try again. but my parents would have to know wouldnt they? as im under 16?
I just dont want to be let down again so its hard.
unless a professional (in any area, not just a doctor) thinks you are in danger, they have no right to tell your parents. you can go to the doctors alone without them needing to know if that's what you want.
can i ask why you don't want to tell them?
umm cus they new the first time i had to go doctors us of it and my dad didnt speak for me for two days and when he did all he said was what your doing is as bad as doing drugs. i then hid it more but i streched once and the saw and i got yelled at alot. and it just makes it worse cus i feel like ive failed them. =/ so i dont want them to know cus i cant bear the disapointment they have in me now without making it worse
