Comparison of PAYG phone rates

My jobhunting luck has gone from bad to worse, so I'm trying to cut down on bills. I've been with Orange for 10 years, on various contract plans but always within Orange. I have googled for a comparison page but I'm only finding comparisons between phone model prices, not network rates on PAYG. If anyone could please advise, I would be very grateful. Bonus points if anyone knows how to keep a phone number when changing networks/plans.

    I'd say go O2. You can still purchase bolt-ons when you want to save a little extra.
