External Harddrive casing

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi guys and gals,

My bro has bought an external casing for his home computers harddrive as advised by PC world. He's put it all together (harddrive into casing) and now the device refuses to open on both an XP and a Windows 7 laptop. If it gets formatted he loses everything - how do I get this to work!

Any help appreciated thanks!

Could you describe the steps you are taking, and any error messages you get?

Assuming it's an IDE drive, check it's configured as master and not slave...

Why didn't he leave it mounted internally? Internal hard drives work best when they're left internally mounted.
