In need of better sounds

Hello I need to get a new sound system: stereo or speakers Could anyone recommend a nice stereo or speaker system that one can connect to the computer, is chic, a nice focal point for the room, yet inexpensive Thanks :)

    Ahh, you were going so well until you added the "inexpensive" criteria. Everything mid-range is going to be much of a muchness.

    Second hand. Good gear doesn't age badly - it sounds like you want to use the computer for your music, so you just need an amplifier and speakers?

    Spend £100 s/h and you'll get a lot of decent sound for your money. Look for an old Marantz PM-44SE, Kenwood KA-3020SE or Denon PMA250II amplifier - 10-15 years ago they were good sellers and extremely highly rated for the money. They're even better at the £20-£50 they tend to fetch these days.

    Speakers - Spendor and Rogers are pretty much always great performers, even the less sought-after models. But again, there's a lot of great stuff out there for not much money. Mission, Mordaunt-Short, Tannoy, Celestion... take yer pick. Budget on £50 a pair and you'll pick up some great sounding gear...
