Red dresses

OK, I know there are a number of dress afficionados on this site and I need your help! I've decided I want to wear a red dress to my work Christmas do, but haven't seen any I specifically like yet - has anyone seen any they can post links to as a start for my hunt? I'm looking for something knee length or above (nothing too short/tight though as I want to wear heels as well and not feel tarty or overdone), preferably plain red without too much embellishment and I like brighter reds rather than dark. Any suggestions welcome!

aw i'll be following this post too because iv decided i want the same thing! a red dress for my christmas party! as you know i am quite a big fan of dresses (haha!) but i havent seen ANY nice ones in the shops yet. im hoping that like as it gets nearer to christmas the shops are going to start getting their christmas party dresses in (ooo how i love that time of year) and there may be some nice ones around. i am going shopping today though so im going to have a look

Haha I had a feeling you might be one of the first to reply! Ace, if there's two of us on the case I'm sure we'll come up with a few ideas. I'm going to have a look in town tomorrow night if I get time as I'm away this weekend, so will let you know what I find. I'll be scouting around on the internet too in the evenings. I love this time of the year for dresses too

www.asos.com have a few, i search for evening dresses in red and there were two whole pages of them. I liked these:

Miss Sixty bra back dress

Ted Baker ruffle front dress

Asos folded neck ponti dress

Ooh, thanks Amira. I really like that Miss Sixty one but that and the Ted Baker one are a little out of my price range...the Asos one's nice too though and really reasonable. I'll have a proper look on Asos at lunchtime I think. Cheers for the suggestions

report from shopping is literally, NO red dresses?! in any of the major shops! apart from this one in new look, which i didnt think was that amazing really. maybe they'll start getting more in nearer christmas? i hope so!

yesss, thats my favourite so far too, i might have to pop into peacocks and have a look. sometimes things look nice on the peacocks website but a bit cheap in the shop so i will have to inspect it hehe.

I saw it in Peacocks yesterday and unfortunately to me it did look a bit cheap

I didn't have a good look at it though so it's maybe worth checking out properly...

I also tried that New Look one on, the shift dress with the folded bit at the top, but it didn't look very nice on - again, looked a bit cheap (although as it's £18 I'm not sure what I expected!)

The search continues...

aw im gutted cos the more i look at it on the website the more i want it! but i had a feeling it might be like that, its kinda the same in matalan, sometimes they look gorgeous on the website but a bit cheapy in real life. i cant decide whether this:

I'm going to try the New Look one on tomorrow if they have it (there's 2 red ones - one is web exclusive and the other one you can buy in store)

I tried both an 8 and 10 on yesterday. The 8 seemed ok but I couldn't get the zip up but I could push the 2 sides together so it should fit but it was awkward to pull the zip up from a certain place so I'm going to take my mam with me to fasten it up for me next time I try it on. The 10 was too big and I had the zip problem with that too.

i hate zips! they are always dodgy these days it seems, specially concealed side zips. iv got this amazing topshop dress that iv only worn once and i cant wear it again now cos the zip is broken, its not my fault either! i know i can get the zip replaced but its the principle :] /end of rant

i tried the peacocks red dress on and i actually kinda like it! but i didnt buy it because they didnt have any 12s and the 14 was a bit big. its also a more orangey red than a red red...but i still quite like it. doesnt look too cheap in real life but it has a horrible belt on it that would need to be taken off hehe.

:yes: I know what you mean about the zip, it's awkward to reach it isn't it? I don't know, I just felt the fabric wasn't that nice on that dress and although the fit wasn't too bad, it just felt a bit odd on. Maybe it's just me!

I may go into town again on Thursday and continue my search, starting to think it may be futile though

I do quite like that dress, it's cute and quirky, but I wouldn't wear it to a work do I don't think. It'd be nice for a general party season dress though

I couldn't push it up from the bottom or pull it from the top grr. I'll take my mam with me next time I try it on.
