my boyfriend seems to think i am suffering from bipolar disorder. and before i go to the doctors i was wondering if people on here can help me decided wheather i may suffer because i dont want to waste my doctors time.

i get very annoyed over the smallest things such as if i am readying a magzine and my boyfriend asks if i am ok i go off on one. if i have money i have to spend it..for example i got paid on 30th october and i have spent most of it already..and i have bills to pay..i have spent it on braclets, necklaces's make up things i dont need. i often come up with ideas to change our lives like opening our own business and reasearch it but doesnt most people do this??..i hate things that are not straight or equally allined up..i cannot leave my job until the last bit is done (i can not leave it half done) my boss tells me to go but i just carnt.

i dont self harm any more but i did used too (by cutting myself) but i have found my self waiting to eat i wait until i can hardly move because my stomch hurts so much before i eat anything is this a sign of self harm i dunno?

any comments would be helpful

hmmm.. it might be but then i can't say as i'm not an expert.
it would be best to get this checked, you're doctor should be sympathetic towards you as any mental health difficulty is.. well.. difficult for the sufferer. it might mean referrals to specialists, but that's a good thing since they can help you with talking therapies and perhaps meds, that's if you do have bipolar disorder.
of course there is the chance that you don't. in which case, maybe going to see a counsellor would be good, to talk through this stuff.
talk to your doctor and see what would be the best route to take. :)

I'm 16, and I've felt and done all the things you mentioned above.
Clearly I'm not a professional, but these are very normal things you're feeling. There is a lot more to bipolar disorder than most people think :)
    But, I'm am amatuer here.

If you are really worried, only a doctor can really give you an accurate diagnosis.
    Good luck! :)

depends how you feel about doing all these things really. the level of distress caused by behavours is the differentiating factor in whether something is a problem or not.

"i get very annoyed over the smallest things such as if i am readying a magzine and my boyfriend asks if i am ok i go off on one."

That sounds like anger issues possibly caused by some form of depression.

"if i have money i have to spend it"

That sounds like you're not very good at budgeting.

"i often come up with ideas to change our lives like opening our own business and reasearch it but doesnt most people do this??"

Nothing wrong with that and yes lots of people have ideas

"i hate things that are not straight or equally allined up"

That just sounds like a quirk of your nature. Now if you went up to said object and straightened it 57 times that would indicate a problem.

"i cannot leave my job until the last bit is done (i can not leave it half done) my boss tells me to go but i just carnt."

That sounds like you're a good employee who likes to get the job done.

You haven't described a symptom of BPD, so i doubt you are, but it's certainly a good idea to see you're G.P. But don't expect a diagnosis other than possible a general psychiatric illness, you may need a referal.

    Hi Hiddenxxsecrets,

It's great to hear that you have decided to see your GP, as people have said on your thread, it is better to have a medical professional assess you and provide you with some medical guidance. We're really pleased you've been able to come here and seek advice too. You may want to check out Thesite's page on mood swings - there is a link to there to the MDF - Bipolar Organisation that may also help you?

You've also spoken about how you used to self-harm, and don't anymore. This is a huge achievement and something really positive to focus on. It seems that you are also waiting until your stomach hurts before before eating something. This behaviour doesn't sound very healthy and is perhaps something that you can mention to your Doctor when you go to see them? It could be considered a form of self-harm, much depends on your motivation and mind-set when doing this.

We hope it all goes well at your appointment. Keep posting to let us know how you're getting on.

    take care - :)
