Sexual repression

Hi,

Could someone please explain this or at least repression in general.

Long story, but I think from what the GP said that played a large part in me having psychosis.

Thanks

why didn't you ask your GP? I don't really know what he meant with that.

To be honest I think the term 'sexual repression' is a blanket term without proper context.
You'd really need to ask him what he meant by it I think

Well, I probably should do next time I see her. It has something to do with Freud and psychoanalysis.

I think it means subduing feelings and desires in the unconscious.

I don't get it. Is your GP really qualified to be saying stuff like that?

Yeah I'm with DH on this one. Sounds like a bit of a vague answer to your problems man, I'd suggest a second opinion from a different doctor but it can't hurt to ask what exactly she meant by that.

If it's a psychological issue then shouldn't they be referring you to a specialist rather than giving a basic diagnosis?

Well I think she's a pretty good GP, but then I do see a psychiatrist for a check up every 4 months.

    Maybe I should ask him

I just think as my personality, appearance and chances with girls were criticised a lot ie bullying it didn't help me psychologically and that's why I was ill. I think the GP could be right about the repression issue, but ill have to get it checked out.
