how would i do this...?

i've got a lovely snake necklace a couple of weeks ago (not sure what kind of metal but it has a silver finish), and i'm thinking of wearing it as part of my halloween costume, but i want it to look ancient, not shiny and brand new...

any ideas?

How special is it? Do you need it to be wearable after halloween?

You could alway spray paint it... but that would mean it was permanent.

Perfume tends to taint non-precious metal and make it look knackered, cheap body spray?
