Have you tried Buscopan? It's not natural but it is available over the counter, and is meant to be very good. Worth a try. <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

    Acupuncture? Homeopathy?

How comes you came off the pill? Cos I always thought taking the pillw as good for things like severe period pain?

I know exactly where you're coming from, cos i had periods like that, and while they've got better since i've been on the pill, they're still painful. The only things that i can suggest (and these have been suggested to me because of mine, they didn't help me, unfortunately) are menefenamic acid (which your doctor can prescribe) and taking an evening primrose oil supplement everyday. The evening primrose one will take a few months to help, but a friend of mine (who used to be in bed for three days a month) swears by them. The menefenamic acid is v. good too apparently, but when i was prescribed it, it made no effect and then the doctor dooubled the dose and it made me dizzy, but for those people it works for, apparenlty it's really good!! I think i need to go back to the gynaecologist...

I totally sympathise with you. I have the same problems. Short-term, an amino acid called DLPA (you can buy it in Holland & Barrett) is meant to be good for period pain. Think you have to take it for a while before it starts to work though... Also camomile or raspberry tea is suggested. Black cohosh or St John's Wort too. I've tried most of these and to be honest I didn't find any relief. I saw a gynaecologist and found out I had endometriosis which sounds scary but is very common. Check out www.endo.org.uk for more info.

Maybe ask your doc to refer you to a gynaecologist as SEVERE PERIOD PAIN IS NOT NORMAL!! I fought it for years (I'm 25) before I got some answers. Try your pharmacist for painkillers but they don't sell strong stuff over the counter. Take care of yourself.

Glad to see im not the only girl who suffers severely due to periods. They are a pain in the butt. I too most of the time take days of school, the first couple of days because the pain is horrific and i cant exercise or be as active at that time. I break out in hot and cold sweats and shake also. Tis not good. ARGH MEN HAVE IT SOOOO EASY!!!God was soo sexist!lol

hate my periods too. have to rush to the toilet at least every 5-6 hours for fear that my clothes would be stained... how do u gauge a heavy period? i have terrible cramps too... thelast time, it left me squirming about in my seat for almost half a day just because i forgot to bring my painkillers. anyway, the painkillers i have dont really seem to help. some of u r so lucky, at least u get days off when u get terrible cramps, well i cant... so sad. it's always the 1st 2 days--cant stand them. cant concentrate during class. even worse when it comes during exams!

My period is always worse the first 2 days as well with bad pain and cramps. Ive found feminax which you can get over the counter works well. It contains Paracetamol and Codeine for pain, Caffeine and hyoscine Hydrobromide which is a muscle relaxer.
It makes me feel nicely stonned, but they didnt do much for my sis, suppose everyone is diffrent and you just got to experiment with whats out there, or see the dr for something stronger.

Ah yes, Feminax, surely would be knighted if they weren't so inanimate.
Expensive, utter bastards to swallow, but yes, they work.

Ooft I have bad periods too, pain in the ass. Although not as bad as some of the girls before me luckily no throwing up or shakes for me, BUT although some people have said feminax work personally for I paid £5 for something that did nothing for me! The only pills that have ever worked with me, are Anadin Ultra, cheaper than feminax but for me so much better, oh and also you shall discover the for really bad period pains hot water bottles are so your best friend :P Also doctors can be very helpful many blood tests but you reach a solution in the end =]
