Water damaged digital camera.

I went out last night and at the end of the night I noticed my camera's screen was fuzzy and not taking photos properly.

I thought I'd broken the whole camera but the memory card is undamaged as the photos from last night still uploaded.

A TS member informed me that I had broken the TFT LCD monitor or at least water damaged that part. How do I go about fixing it?! The camera is a Premier DC 5080 5.0 megapixels and it's one of my most prized possesions.

Firstly remove the battery from the camera and allow it to properly dry out for some time (like a day or so) in a dry, warm area.

See if that improves things. If not and the screen is actually cracked then it will mean taking it to a specialised repair centre, I wouldn't expect it to be fixable by you. It would probably cost a reasonable amount.

Also after it's dry see if it is just the screen that is broken or if it's the screen *and* the photos. EG can you take a photo that looks crap on screen on the camera but it actually alright.

If you damaged the camera with salt water, then it may well be screwed, as the salt could/will cause corrosion that will persist even after drying.

Thanks Mist. I took a photo with the camera and couldn't actually see it on the display but came out okay when I uploaded it onto my computer..

Will pop into Jessops or something and see about getting it repaired :)

Basically means the sensor is ok and the damage is limited to the screen, which is good news to some extent.

I dare say it might be cheaper to buy a new camera of a similar spec then get it repaired.

You can buy these for as little as £50 now

I would agree, but she said it was a prized possession so I assumed some attachement ;)
