The government are bringing in a law to make it illegal to prevent anyone from breastfeeding a baby under 6months in public.
While this is a step in the right direction, it still means that someone could actually be charged with indecency for breastfeeding a baby older than 6 months.
considering the appallingly low breastfeeding rates in this country anyway, I think that six months is an incredibly short limit, and not even in line with the WHO guidelines who suggest breastfeeding for 2 years.
Please sign the petition if you can.

I will definitely sign. I'm with you though, I'm not sure why there has to be a time limit on it, six months seems very young...
p.s. I'll sign it just to keep me brother happy ...
It is not illegal to do so, but that the law doesn't protect you over the age of 6 months
New legislation is being proposed to make it an offence to stop a woman breastfeeding a baby under six months of age in public. After that age then there is no such law

And I'm not sure this really is the best way forward, its legislation as spin - something New Labour has got rather good at.
What we need is a much better public health campaign to encourage breat feeding, changing the culture rather than the law.
If people can't handle the sight of mothers breastfeeding, I don't know how they cope with all the nudity and stuff on TV, in magazines and everywhere else in our culture.
(I've signed it by the way)
Surely biology can decide that.
I dont think any age limit needs to be put on it full-stop, but since the WHOs guidelines are that breastfeeding should ideally be 2 years, even though its barely a fraction of a percentage of people that breastfeed that long, that is reason enough that the law shouldnt stop offering protection for feeding an infant a quarter of that age
Hope they change this, it's utterly ridiculous to criminalise breastfeeding like that.
Given the sort of laws this government likes putting into place I'd be happy for them to spend an entire session debating this.
like voting.
but we still do it.
 You wouldnt think breasts where for feeding babies the way certain parts of the media carry on.
Signed.
I wonder if anyone here disagrees.
ooh baby, hubba hubba!
Its the only government you've ever known. In the grand scheme of things they arent that much better or worse than all the others.
