  If your looking into getting into DJing the first thing I'd say to you is to save your money and get some industry style equipment (ie. Vesdex / Technics), theres no point buying the cheaper decks as they have a different feel to them and you'll struggle if your not used to them, you'll understand what I mean when you give them a shot, adjusting pitches and slowing/speeding up the plate its all different, only thing with the industrial standard equipment is that its expensive (talking like £800 for 2 decks)... The best mixer to start with in my opinion (industry standard too) is the Gemini 626/676 Pro, it cost about £150ish, has 3 channels and is one of the most hard wearing mixers you can buy.
  
  As for records, you've got a wide choice, apart from independents (the prefered choice), HMV are getting far better at stocking vinyl these days, check out all the new releases regardless of whether you know the choon or not, I'd recommend looking at any DOSorDie release, I've got the unreleased remix of Castles in the Sky and have had it for over 7 months, same with most of the tracks you find out these days you usually get them several months before chart release.... keep an eye for white label remixes as well (bootlegs) they always go down well...

  What the other guy said was true, except that Technics you can get for around £650 now, look at the ads in the back of DJ Mag for the best buys.
  The Gemini 626 pro is a great mixer, I've had one for 4 years and it has never gone wrong, though it is starting to crackle a bit on the cross-fader, just needs a clean I think.
  You could also think about getting CDs players with pitch/speed controls, if you have a CD rewriter on your pc and some conversion software you can convert MP3s you have downloaded, often for free, to use on the them. The pioneers are the best, well imo, and they are a lot more portable than decks.
  As for vinyl, there are lots of mail order shops, again, try the mags for adverts, lots have web sites where you can listen to short samples too. Equally, many of the charts in the mags have tel nos you can ring to hear the tunes, even the hype charts including yet to be released stuff.
  Not sure how far away it is from you, but Worcester has a couple of independents I think. Not mentioning any names there is a huge mail order co in Brum that has a reputation for heavy overcharging, at least 2 quid per tune, so avoid-you'll know who they are, well if you look at the www.djmag.com message boards!! they aint popular, ha ha

  CDJs are a good think to learn but primarly I'd say go for decks, I used to own a pair of denons... The problem for a lot of CD-DJs is actually getting the tunes, bear in mind that promo's mainly come out on vinyl and most CD compilations are mixed these days. Some independents will actually do you a CD of whatever 12" tunes you like which can be useful as you'll get 11 full 12" length tracks for say £20...

  Pioneers are definatly the best for CDJs, I learnt to mix CDs by using their 500 system along with the Pio 500 mixer with effects unit, personally one of the best mixers I've ever used, shame its like £500...

  Having said that, they are useful if you go to see them, I've bought quite a bit from there, they are running up-to 70% off quite a few classics at the moment...
