help, the fridge!

Anyone know about fridges?

My housemate has been hacking at a huge block of ice that has been growing in the fridge for months, with a knife, and she went into something which let out some gas. It went hiss!

I have 2 questions.

1) Is this dangerous? Could we be poisened?
2) Is our fridge broken? Stuff still feels cold but i dont want to leave everything in there overnight only to find everything is gone off in the morning. Its a fridge freezer too, so i dont want all my frozen stuff to defrost :(

I've just done a food shop too!

You probably just killed the ozone layer - don't think it's harmful to you though if it's CFC's but you your friend probably just ruined your fridge - unless that hole is repaired the gas which makes it cold will keep leaking out

Not if it was a new fridge. I don't think freon's used much anymore because it's a CFC, which is shame because it does get you buzzing. :D

The stuff they mostly use nowadays I'm sure isn't highly toxic. You'll be alright. Your fridge wont.

That's so weird... a bloke at work did the exact same thing to the fridge there. We're getting a new one. The gas stinks.
