Eggs

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I just bought eggs, and now I want some. But we don't have milk so I can't make scrambled eggs or an omlet, and we don't have a poaching pan so I can't do that... and I've run out of ideas. Any ideas?

All you need is a deep pan of boiling water to poach em.

Have you got any cream or crème fraîche you could mix in and make an omelet ?

How do they stay in the egg shape and not go everywhere though, if you try to poach it?

And no, no cream or anything. Pretty much no other ingrediants :p

Boil the water, get a spoon or something and swirl it then crack the egg into the boiling swirling water.

    Ta Da.

You don't need milk for an omlette or scrambled egg - in fact i think it tastes better without.

I never stir the water when i do a poached egg, i just get a fairly shallow pan, fill with boiling water and a tiny bit of white wine vinegar and salt, turn it down so it's not very bubbly or moving at all then crack a very fresh egg into it. Perfect :)

Alternatively, ramekin lined with butter/olive oill, egg, microwave, turn it out. Also works :)

Scrambled egg, omlette, fried egg - none of those need milk etc?

:D its not rocket science :D

I do poached eggs frequently, just in a saucepan with boiling water. It works best if the eggs are fresher, otherwise the white goes a bit stringy. They probably dont look as pretty as doing them in a poacher but that snot what matters imo they taste good!

scrambled eggs are good made with no milk, just butter

what about boiled egg and soldiers?

It's like when you have eggs over easy or sunny side up!

And you have to have milk for scrambled! That's what keeps them light and fluffy

rofl @ this thread, how can you not know what a fried egg is.

I quite often don't bother with milk now for scrambled or omlettes, its still just as nice!

    I love eggs.

Worst case scenario, just boil them and have boiled eggs? lol

    I just came across this

    http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com/Egg_Yolk.html

The list of stuff in an egg reads like the label on a multivitamin

Woman!!!! you're American and don't know how to make a fried egg?!?!?!? You should be ashamed of yourself :p

But seriously, poached egg is gorgeous without a poacher (just follow the instructions sara gave), boil it, fry it or if you have to have scrambled or an omlette try it without the milk

I remember asking for a fried egg at a diner in America and being completely flummoxed by the list of options the server fired at me.

    Eggs Benedict is nice :)

I LOVE eggs. They are a natural food and are good for you! As long as you don't have too many.
