    In terms of preventing pregnancy, when taken correctly, it has 99% (ish) success rate.

    For preventing other aimlents it's pretty much 100% ineffective ;)

    Provided it's taken responsibly then yes, it only protects against pregnancy though.

    The most commonly quoted failure rates for perfect use are 0.1% for the combination pill and 0.5% for the progesterone only pill. What this means in reality is that in a given 1000 people using the combined pill for a year, 1 person will have an unwanted pregnancy during that year period.
