    I have access too, apparently.

TBH I think that you will find it's just statisical rather than the detail of the conversation - e.g. people from 01843 call people from 01203 between 1800 and 1900

or people from 0155 are more likely to call NHS direct than 999...

    linkage

if they want to access my phone records, get a court order showing reasonable suspicion of a crime being commited

The security services already keep records of incoming/outgoing calls, nothing new and in some cases the content of those calls is recorded as well. Unless you're a dodgy builder who has just ripped off an old woman, or a nut case planning your next attrocity then you really must be thinking a lot of yourself if you think the police e.t.c. even care that you exist.

The police will find this sort of thing very useful when they decide they don't like someone and go on a fishing trip to try and nail them.

    Very very useful.

I'd also love to know why the Robbing Scum Council need to know who I've been ringing. They can just come and ask me.

They still have to prove that it's you speaking in that phone call if they want to use it as evidence in court. I had to do a speaker comparison for my degree last year, it is definitely NOT easy to do, and voice evidence like this can only be used as additional evidence and not on it's own.

at the end of the day though anyone who knows them can abuse them so its not just about people being paranoid of their privacy.
