To be fair they had put off previous planned increases several times in the last few years. It had to happen sooner or later.

It shouldn't have been increased at all tbh, it's not like they don't get enough money off us, especially since they increased the cost of car tax.

They already get stupid amounts of tax from fuel and even when they've witheld the increases the tax we pay on fuel has been going up because a chunk of it is done as a % of what you pay rather than a fixed tax per litre. The % part has been steadily rising with the oil price so while they claim to have not put the tax up for ages its actually a complete lie.

The duty hasn't gone up. That is the truth.

Naturally if oil prices rise the VAT amount on a litre will be higher. That has sweet FA to do with the government.

The article said it had increased in line with inflation.

    Ergo no real change..?

Shhh... don't let the truth get in the way of a good rant about the government's "War on the Motorist" (© Associated Newspapers Ltd.).

But the tax rise is also inflationary (so much for the Government being tough on inflation) and we already pay the most tax on fuel in Europe

Exactly, we pay approx 60p in the £1 of fuel as TAX!

The highest in europe, where the average is approx. 30p per litre! That would mean us paying 70p/litre for fuel again!!

As said, road tax has gone up, so why the hell do we pay tax to use the roads then ridiculous tax on fuel, where is the justification?

This goverment has a lot to answer for in reality, lots of praise being dished out for the amount spent on public services and NHS etc, but then the poor person is stiffed with higher tax on fuel, stupid house prices, rising interest rates, and then they make the poorest in the country lose out by fucking about with their tax !! Appauling!!

Fuel tax is a lot fairer than road tax. At least you get taxed according to usage.
