Its released from 'glands' at a steady rate, where neccessary.
When MDMA enters your brain it encourages your brain to reduce more seretonin than it ordinarily would and hemce the high <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> afterwards you've no seretonin left and hence you get the comedown feeling <IMG SRC="frown.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
However in doing so, it damages all the receptors etc, and they grow back abnormally.
Thats where the facts finish and the speculation starts, whether this disrupts the natural balances long term and therefore causes depression etc...... is widely debatable, but there is no substancial evidence this is the case.
