Group Instant Messenger

Has anyone come across anything like MSN Messenger but where you can setup one big chat room? Not a web based chat room though but an instant messenging chatroom, a bit like the ones on skype but aimed at typing either to the whole group or individual people in the group.

    I found something very similar to what I want but it's for LAN's

    Anyway to get this working over the internet?

    This is basically what I'm after .. A downloadable Application like MSN / Yahoo / AIM / ICQ not just a website you go to... but something that will sit in your system tray until someone enters the room.

    i looked for something like this once.

    Sure irc couldnt be configured to your needs?

    Well most of the people I'd want to use it aren't techies, they know how to use things like MSN / Yahoo

    Ideally it would be a downloadable program that is preconfigured
