Number Plates tests

Last week, I asked a question in the health forum asking whether I can drive if I have nystagmus.

I went to the opticians today to get my eyes tested and got told that if I can read a number from a certain distance, then I can start lessons.

Does anyone know of anywhere where I can do this please?

Does it have to be an official thing? The only place I've ever been tested on my ability to read a number plate from a certain distance is in my actual driving test.

Maybe call an instructor you'd be interested in learning with, explain the situation?

No it doesn't have to be an official thing.

Should be able to do it yourself then, or with a driving instructor (as they'll know the official distance and I have no idea off the top of my head) I'm sure you can look it up on the internet though.

Simple - stand 20metres away from one and see if you can read it..
