Scoliosis

I posted a thread similar to this about a year ago when I first went to doctors about the fact that one of my hips seemed to stick out more than the other. I was diagnosed with scoliosis, which for those who aren't sure basically means I have a curve and a twist in the bottom half of my spine, therefore this has sent my pelvis off course and means I'm kinda lopsided. Which doesn't look all that great in any kinda tight tops.

Anyways, today I've just come home from seeing a specialist who has proposed the dreaded idea of surgery :nervous: . He classed the curve in my spine as 45 degrees from the normal and therefore falls into the 'severe' category and would qualify for surgery. It's not painful or anything, although it does greatly increase my chance of having back problems in my 40's-50's, and so surgery would simply be on a cosmetic basis. But it does make me extremely self-conscious, it shows through some tighter clothes and any kinda of bikini or short top is a definatly no-no.

Surgery does carry the massive implication of a very marginal risk of paralysis (sp?) because it's on my spine, I think the doctor said it was something like 1 or 2%, but it's still there. And would make a fairly hefty scar.

Anyways, just wanted to know anyone else with scoliosis on here? And how bad is it? Anyone had, or would consider having surgery on this? Any comments for straight-spined people welcome too!
