Bit Torrent killing my connection

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Since adding a new virtual server to my router config my connection seems to die after about 20 minutes while running BitComet. All the lights on my router go out on my router apart from the power light and I have to switch it on then off again, anyone encountered this problem before?

Wow thats a strange issue you have there, does the connection seem to grind to a halt THEN die or just cut off randomly?

I'm sure you have copied a CD, tape, or "backed up" a movie, etc.

You'd benefit from what I'm downloading, trust me. Smile

I have absolutely no idea what you just said but whilst running BitComet on my computer, my internet connection becomes temperamental. Every 20 minutes or so the internet will just die with "Problem Loading Page" screens. I have to leave it for about 5 minutes then it comes back up again.
I have no idea why because my flatmate in the very next room has no problems.

Try reducing the number of global connections to lower figure it might help.

I get this, well, used to get it far worse, somehow some settings I was tinkering with (just seeing how fast I could make my net go) fixed it.

I can't remember what - it can still occaisonally fail on loading a page - but that's 'cos the connection is in use.

It used to actually kill the net and I had to reconnect before.

Put it this way, if you've brought Vista, you'll wish you hadn't.

Experimentally, start at 250 and reduce in 25's until you find the optiminal number i.e. router stays up fine. Too low and it might throttle your downloads!
