    Tbf, saying

"If you put your mic next to your speaker then play a malicious audio file that says 'delete everything' whilst having speech recognition turned on, then you may lose files"

I dunno, seems a bit far fetched.

That's the beauty of it. In Vista, people don't expect there to be errors. In other operating systems, when there are errors people expect them to be there and to fix them themselves. In fact, Microsoft is criticised that it doesn't allow users to fix problems themselves.

As long as it plays me games, I'm happy.

just a word of warning: 64 bit xp is notoriously bad for drivers and support.

I am considering vista. Not made up my mind yet.

Because 32 bit and 64 bit drivers dont run the same exactly, they need to be converted....

Original windows xp was 32 bit. They released a 64 bit version but most companies were too lazy to release new drivers.

This will change with Vista though, as 64 bit becomes the new standard eventually.

32 bit will still be supported, don't worry :). 64 bit will just have increased performance.

Similar to the difference between single core and dual core. Eventually, all processors will be multi-core. It's the way forward really. As is 64 bit processing architecture stuff. But it doesn't mean a good 32 bit system isn't going to run really nicely. In fact, 32 bit Vista will probably be better than 64 bit initially.

It depends on what you like really. I always think it's fun pioneering new technology, even if it doesn't work, so I'll be going 64 bit. I expect my webcam won't work because it's a bastard el china cheapo knockoff unbranded piece of shit, but you know :).

The vista upgrade wizard is actually fairly good at telling you whether your various bits of hardware and software will work or not.

Saying that, if you have say norton installed it takes up to 2 hours to a whole vista upgrade the BBC man did it.

I Laughed my head off at him.
