PCOS - Hair Growth Problem

Please don't think of me as a freak...even though i feel like one. I have been diagnosed with Polycistic Ovaries, and one of the symptoms is excessinve hair growth due to a hormonal imbalance. Most women shave their legs etc 1 a week/fortnight. Me..i shave at least 3 times a week, To be frank its pissing me off...then the rash sets in and how attractive it looks too. Does anyone else have this condidtion or am i as i said a freak?

i have heard of that condition mandi so i dont think you're a freak!!

you said most women shave their legs once a week or fortnight... OH MY GOD! i dont! they get all horrible and prickly if i dont shave theme very 2 days! but half the time i dont bother that often unless i have a reason to shave them lol

you could try something else like depilatory creams like immac, or maybe waxing/sugaring? then you wouldnt get the rash from shaving. oh and buy shave gel to use and not soap, coz its much better.

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

Thanx for that, i'm so glad its not just me. I must admit though i do let myself go unless the boyf is around.

Might try waxing next, creams don't do bugger all it comes back at the same rate!!!

i nicked loads of my mums immac at first and she wasnt happy! hehe

prob with waxing is you have to let it grow dont you, inch long hair just aint attractive!!! so the benefits of ages before it grows back sort of are outweighed by the looking like a gorilla in between stage!!

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

Trust me, i won't have to wait long for it to grow a couple of days should do it lol!!!! I'll try owt. If that don't work i'm afraid its gonna have to be electrolysis and if that don't work i give up.

Either electrolysis or laser treatment. Aparently the laser treatment is more expensive, but much more effective.

Is there no treatment for polycistic ovaries?

From what i can gather from the doc, the best cure for PCOS is to have a kid, but even that is not easy given the condition and i aint in a rush for that. But i suppose it can't be cured. In extreme cases they can remove the cysts, but all i am doing is trying to control it. They changed my pill (Dianette) which is supposed to reduce the rate at which it grows back, and help the condition but i've been on it for 7 months now and i aint seen signs of it working in the hair growth department.

do the cysts have any other effects other than excessive hair growth?

I think the cysts are harmless its just the hormonal imbalance that cause the freaky stuff like hair growth, something to do with male hormones....but don't get me wrong i am all woman, aint aint one of these freak of natures type folk lol!!!!!
