Do women make men ill?

The title is pertly to get your attention, but is also to be considered.

All my life I've been hearing that old crap about how men suffer so much less graciously than women do. How any man with a cold acts like he's dying, etc etc.

Read this link

"Men are four times less likely to consult a doctor when they experience medical problems, even though a man's average life expectancy is six years less than a woman's, and men are much more likely to be admitted to hospital as an emergency with something serious or life threatening! Women have been teasing us men for years that if we had to have babies, none would ever have been born. What is behind men's carefree attitude to their own health?"

The article is interesting and balanced generally. It makes the point that men seem to rely on the women in their life, all of their life, just as when they were kids and their mother looked after them.

Men do need to start taking responsibility for their own health. However, at the same time, women should stop perpetuating the sexist crap. Men have a hard time beating the stereotypes already. Please, never, ever again say that stupid, offensive, sexist crap about men acting like they are dying when nothing is really wrong.

My father died of a massive heart attack. The post-mortem revealed he'd had several minor ones in the last year of his life, yet he'd never said a word.

Please, think before saying anything to increase the chances of a man downplaying a serious illness.

youre quite right, i feel bad now, whenever my husband has a cold, i always joke about him having a man cold which is 4 times worse than a woman cold <IMG SRC="tongue.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
but i must admit, he doesnt have as good an immune system as i do anyway. when i get a cold, it usually only lasts a day or two and its usually quite mild. when he gets a cold he definitely gets it worse than me, and it lasts ages.
sorry to hear about your dad
