How do you know if you have paranoia? And not from smoking too many J's.
I believe that I get looks from people and they comment that I look foreign, thing is I think they talking about me in a bad way.
I work part time in a Tapas bar and alot of the time people talk to me in Spanish, I am not Spanish and I don't take offense to this.
My point being, how do I get over always wanting to know what people say about me and what they are thinking? It's difficult to go through life and not give a fuck or listen to people's opinions.
thanks, hope you can understand this

everybody gets paranoid from time to time, could it be a self-confidence problem ?
Puertarica, I know exactly what you are talking about, difficult to describe to other people isn't it? When I was at high school I was bullied quite badly in the whispering behind backs (and often insulted to face) kind of way. My self-confidence was completely shattered by the time I was 15, I used to hate walking into a room cos it felt like everyone was laughing and talking about me. I spent conversations wondering what people were thinking about me... it drives you crazy. The awful thing is... once those little voices uin your head start, making you all paranoid and assuming you are being talked about... it is SO hard to get them to shut the fuck up.
Eb is right on one thing, it will really help if you build your self confidence. Easier said than done, I know. Are you unhappy with the way you look? I mean, there are worse things to be called than Spanish! It sounds like such a Oprah cliche, but unless you are happy with yourself the way you are, then you are always going to worry about what other people think.
What would it take to build your self confidence? A night class in something you want to do, or a new skill to develop? Getting involved in something that gives you a social life along with it so you can make friends? I'm just suggesting some of the things I did.
I don't think many people can claim not to worry about what others think, dont cut yourself up too badly about that, its natural. Worry more about what you think of yourself right now, figure out what you'd like to change, then do something about it. Then you'll have more self-esteem and you will see others are not constantly critising or making fun.
There is that school of thought that you'd have to be incredibly self-centred to asssume people have nothing better to do than talk/laugh etc. about you.
That'll be me then.
It's a huge 'YOU NEED TO BULID YOUR CONFIDENCE!' cliche unfortunatley.
The diificult part is building your confidence up... <IMG SRC="frown.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
