Ive got a few questions...

Firstly i was wondering at what time of the day is it best and most effective (for weight loss) to do aerobic exercise?

Because during the hols i've been going to the gym early in the morning, but i wont be able to now because i dont have the time before school. So i thought i could either go in the evening or go for a run in the morning and evening, but i've heard it's most effective to do exercise in the morning!

Also how long after youve eaten should you do exercise for it to be most effective?

Ive also heard that you should leave a day rest between exercise or you start to build more muscle. Is this true? Or is that refering to intense exercise rather than a light jog or something?

ok, i think that's it for now, but if anyone can help me out here it would be MUCH appreciated!! <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="confused.gif" border="0">

cheers,

There is no real time you have to wait after eating for maximum weight loss, the most important thing is you give yourself enough time for the food to be digested, as exercise diverts blood away from the stomach.

When trying to build muscle mass it is important to give rest time in order to let the muscles rebuild. But you don't want to add muscle, and by doing light jogging, any muscle gains will be minimal anyway. Just make sure that your body does get adequate rest though, as otherwise you could end up doing damage to yourself.

In your case the best thing to do is to exercise when it suits you best.

    i have another question:
if i lost a stone or 2, and decided to maintain this weight, would i just need to reduce the frequency and/or intensity of exercise and eat healthily? Or would i put on weight because im doing less exercise?

    thanks for any help <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0">

What sort of weight/height are you? If you don't want to make it public e-mail me AlistairGroves@excite.com or get on MSN messenger using that e-mail addy or ICQ 75533395.

Generally to lose or gain weight, you need to change your lifestyle, there is no real short term solution, because as soon as you go back to normal, your body will once again adapt to suit the conditions and revert to it's old conditions. This often happens to people who do diets.

Once you have hit the point where you are happy you need to balance the energy expended by mainting your body, and what ever exercise you do against you total energy input, in the form of the food (and drink) you take in. So, you may need to adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

Eating healthily is a must - and I hope you are still eating a fair bit now, as otherwise, you will likely as not lose more muscle than fat, and if you put weight back on it may well come back - I know of people who have finished diets not much lighter, but with less muscle and more fat....
One thing to look out for is to make sure you are getting enough protein, from either beans, meat, fish (tuna is v. good - just drain the oil) and some pulses and grains.

I would keep some sort of exercise going, such as taking part in sport, which aswell as keeping your weight down will keep your body toned and keep you fit and healthy.

As in all cases you have to balance everything out, just make sure in the quest for "your ideal body" you aren't actually losing too much weight, as it can be unhealthy.
