Okay, i got a Netgear storage central SC101
and im wondering if i can turn it into online hosting as such, so i can host my website from there (reason being my hosting is running out soon-ish)
I heard you need some things but not too sure
Thanks!

Also, you would need a server. This could just be a crappy 486 running linux + apache, but you still need something. The storage array is just a set of discs, it doesn't have a web server built in that I know of.
Then of course you'd need a router, but I assume you have such a thing.
and sounds like alot to do!
I was asking about turning something into hosting.
If you want a fairly cheap solution to hosting your own websites I suggest getting an old Raq server from ebay, they're about 50 quid, but they're rackmounting and intended for datacentres (So they're very noisy).
If you want I can make you an account on my server, I only really use it for my personal stuff so you're welcome to an account there.
So its that easy? buy some rackmount server thing off ebay and plug it into My router?
To be honest, whilst it's a doddle, it's also a pain in the arse as your connection will be naff for uploading(which your PC does each time someone else downloads). There are hosts out there for £15 per year or so, I'd recommend trying one.
Unless you're just wanting to learn how it all works. In which case do it all yourself .
and i'm paying £5* For a Year
At the very least, you'll learn how to configure a superb firewall. At best, you'll understand why the thesite.org server is falling down each day, and which bit is causing it. Linux is an exceptional tool to learn, particularly if you're interested in computers. Have a read on the different types of filesystem used, and full disk encryption. Linux/FreeBSD are both leagues ahead of Windows on both counts, and should make for interesting reading for anyone wanting to learn .
Or just pay your fiver, and go masturbate over the Vista website.
Who says the fiver aint for the porn
I'll read up on them actauly thanks :thumb:
I thought your server died yonks ago and needed reinstalling?
